One autumn evening, we decided to head to an event we had been invited to at The Good Place in Chelsea, London, UK. It was one of many events we had been invited to around that time and we were struggling to get to all of them due to day job demands and general busy life activities, but we though .this one we need to get to…..there was something calling us to it. As you can guess, it was the right decision because we met so many wonderful bloggers, brands and inspirational shoppers, but one that stood out in particular was Pembe Club 🙂
Now, it could be something to do with the quality, maybe the design or maybe event the fact that the jewellery is made in our home continent of Africa, but whatever the real deeper reason, we decided the right thing to do was to share them with you! Jewellery this meaningful should not be hiding away 🙂
The beautiful soul behind the brand is Yasmine Haji who grew up in East Africa before moving to Switzerland, France and England. It was after Yasmins last safari holiday in Selous Reserve, Tanzania that she felt compelled to take positive action to make a difference to her homeland, the people there and the wildlife living on the beautiful land……or more accurately the lack of wildlife such as elephants due to poaching! Through this desire to make a difference, PEMBE CLUB was born.
PEMBE CLUB, is named after the Swahili word meaning ivory or tusk and is handcrafted in Tanzania using local natural and sustainable elements. Yasmine herself sources wild seeds, recycled glass and hand-made wooden beads and through this meticulous attention to her surroundings, she works to harmoniously benefit local artisans and villagers. Designs are hand-carved and cast and inspired by tusks, teeth and horns that are being plundered from our wildlife on a daily basis. The hope is that by replicating these shapes, there will not be a need for real animal parts and this terrible ‘tradition’ can be stamped out! A percentage of each PEMBE CLUB sale goes directly to selected organisations chosen for their work on the frontline.
Now that we have wooed you into the world of beautiful East African jewellery, we’d like to give you a chance to have a piece of your own! Pembe Club have super kindly partnered with us to bring you an early Christmas present! Check out our Instagram to see how this gorgeous bracelet could be yours 🙂 🙂
